Bike to School/Work

It has been a year since my last post. Time flies so fast that I have forgotten all about my blog. Well for the past year of so I have rekindled my love for biking. Not as a sport but as a way of getting around. During my high school days I used to go to school using my a mountain bike.  Nowadays there are a lot more options than just getting a mountain bike or road bike

I started again a few years back when I bought a folding bike with an extra seat and extra handle bars for me and my child. This got my child to also love biking and is biking since age three with out the so called trainer wheels (that does not really train a kid to ride a bike) The bike cost was abut 4,500 pesos. It was a good bike for going around the village .

Then I came upon an electric folding bike being sold in a website. I visited the place and researched about it. I even had a chance to talk to the owner who said that i could even be a dealer. Well I wanted to check the product out first, so I bought one.It was quite expensive at a price of 34,000 pesos. For that price I could have bought a very decent mountain bike. It was a blast to ride when the battery had juice but once the battery died it was quite heavy to pedal.

The main reason I bought the bike was to bring my firstborn to school. I had a seat fabricated for my child.

 The route to the school had an elevation of 50 meters in a distance of 3 kilometers. The distance was quite short but the elevation was a killer. This where the electric motor help a lot. I have attached a bike computer to the bike to measure distances of the bike and to date it has a mileage of about 5000 kilometers so in terms of just the cost of gasoline it has already paid for itself. Consider also the time saved from the commute. It would take me around 30 minutes to 40 minutes on a car and just 15 to 20 minutes on a bike. Then I save also on the time going to the gym. Its like hitting three birds with one stone. Especially now I still bring my kid to school with out the battery and my son has grown a lot. Just imagine carrying a backpack 20 kilo backpack up 50 meters.

I use also my bike going to work. Like when I don't have to dress up for a meeting. But I usually have a change of clothes and kikay kit with me. With the traffic nowadays it has been more logical and Sulit to ride a bike to anywhere.Who wants to be stuck in traffic anyways. We even go to the grocery or palengke for things we need.

Now I encourage everybody to try it. You may just ditch your car once your try it.
